Introduction

Troubled by a continuum of conflict with an apparent variety of causes, dominating our existence, I asked why? The answer is a question of meaning I present in a poem, a precis and an essay each aptly titled "The Last Why". All other writings are derivatives. I welcome comments and much appreciate sharing. Thank you. Doug.E.Barr

HUMAN RIGHTS

The view we should have our own rights
Is absolutely wrong.
We can not possibly survive
Each 'singing' our own 'song'.

Rights we demand for our attempts
To fill the void within,
Put us into a fight for life
No one will ever win.

These rights we claim are just ideas.
They have no sustenance.
To fight and trash our 'home' for them
Makes not a whit of sense.

There is a right that we possess
That is our very own.
However, it's part of a whole;
A fact not widely known.

The whole is all humanity
Of which we are a part.
Our birthright is to sustain it
With each beat of our heart.

We do that realizing our
Unique capacities,
We give to others and to God
In natural reprise.

The consequence of "reaching out..."
In "ideal" harmony,
With each one 'singing' our own parts,
Creates our symphony.
