Introduction

webrose.JPG

Troubled by a continuum of conflict, with an apparent variety of causes, dominating our existence I asked why? The answer is a question of meaning I present in a poem, a precis and an essay each aptly titled "The Last Why". All other writings are derivatives. I welcome comments and much appreciate sharing. Thank you. Doug.E.Barr

WALL STREET PROTESTS: a collective "Why am I?"

Wisconsin was the state wherein
Humanity was re-conceived.
They had no vision of it then
But change was needed they believed.

It came to Wall Street to be born.
Let's hope it's here that we can see
The changes needed to ensure
We feed reborn humanity.

We have to see the common good
And rise above Democracy,
A system which persists because
Our dominant concern is "me".

The vertical economy
We can't continue to applaud.
A horizontal one we need
To be our servant, not our god.

Religions and philosophies
We think give meaning to our life,
We must discard to see the view
That frees us from ongoing strife.

All hits to our environment
We simply must bring to an end.
Unless we quit assaulting her
A final message she'll soon send.

The calls for changes aren't diverse.
They have their source in one appeal
To make the common life we live
The consequence of "the ideal".

For years change has been side to side.
We must begin to move ahead.
If we don't make these changes, then
The end of Wall Street will be dead.

Nice work.... Everybody now "what about them greedy bankers" see support vid http://youtu.be/YUC9goxsH74

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Bankers are not the cause of the 1%/99% split. The split exits because the majority of us support the vertical economy. The occupy movements are pitting 1% against "the 1%". 98% are hanging onto the gunwales silently shouting don't rock the boat. When the streets of the world are occupied by 99% of humanity in favor of a horizontal economy, our economic problems will be solved with very little conflict. Doug.E.Barr

Uhhh.... you DO know that Wisconsin is a state, not a city?

Thank you for pointing out this microscopic speck on my poem. Its message should now be clear to all. Doug.E.Barr

Wisconsin is not a city, wisconsin is an entire state we have a number of fun cities such as Milwaukee, Green Bay, and also Madison.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I really did know that. It slipped my mind when I was writing my poem because I was concentrating on its message. So that my brain fart won't distract other Wisconsinites from the message, I have corrected my error. Thanks. Doug.E.Barr
