Introduction

Troubled by the conflict dominating our lives I asked why? The answer is a question of meaning I present in "the poem", "the precis", "the essay" all titled "The Last Why". The other writings are derivatives. Thank you for sharing. Doug.E.Barr

HUMMINGBIRDS

SWEET NECTAR

I fed the hummingbirds today.
I can't for certain tell you why.
They're such inspiring little birds.
I like to see them round me fly.

A brain small as a grain of rice;
A 'finger' flown by two inch wings;
To see them hover, dart about;
Is one of the most awesome things.

The Rufus has a bib that glows
Just like a pretty hologram.
And when he shows his neck to us
He says with beauty, "God I am".

If two decide they can not share
They start to hover face to face
And then a helix they create
As they fly straight up into space.

Now as I think the more I feel
The reason why I like these birds;
They could be angels in disguise,
A flock of little flying words.

Absolutely charming! Obviously, you watch them for hours. I find them fascinating, as well. To think that they might be angels would be delightful; however, they sure can be little fighters, when the need arises! For something so small, they sure are mighty. I love your description of them as little fingers! I never though of them that way. Carolyn

Thank you Sandy,
On occasion in the past I have felt my spirit soar as if "...on wings like eagles...". On this occasion it soared as if on wings like hummingbirds. I will put the link to your site at the end of my poem to give visitors the opportunity to be similarly uplifted by your art.

Doug, You totally cofuse me you act as if you don't love the lord. And in this poem you say that the humming birds could be angles in disguise. And that makes feel like you do care for the Lord. You are one man that is hard to understand. I want to let you knoe you done a great job on this poem.

Such a warm and pretty,
a touching little ditty.
I have seen some wondrous birds
and their description - well words
all but fail me.
Yet I cannot think
of anything more satisfying
than viewing such a one
whilst supping a drink
of herbal essence tea;
seated on a deckchair
without a care
in this fair
land.

Thanks for sharing the view with me. Doug.E.Barr

I quoted to you on Facebook today
'cos it's really fair and quite true to say,
I stiil cannot help but smile
all the meanwhile
when I view
the two
plus ++ hummingbird.
Quite absurd
I expect,
but they make me feel warm over all.
E'en when the clouds layer a pall
over the watery Spring sun.
They look so full of innocence and fun.
Ciao for now X:)

Beautiful little poem about beautiful little creatures. I always love poetry which captures the spirit of our Creator, especially through tiny, fragile, and "Angelic Gifts" such as these. Thanks for sharing Doug.
