Introduction

webrose.JPG

Troubled by a continuum of conflict, with an apparent variety of causes, dominating our existence I asked why? The answer is a question of meaning I present in a poem, a precis and an essay each aptly titled "The Last Why". All other writings are derivatives. I welcome comments and much appreciate sharing. Thank you. Doug.E.Barr

FREE MARKETS

"Free markets" is another myth
Upon which we build life;
But like our 'faiths' they can't be free
Because they cost us strife.

We fight because there's not enough
To fill the void within,
The purpose of the market race
We think we need to win.

What is the point? We have to ask,
Why strive to get ahead,
Since we all know that at the end
We're tied when we are dead?

The market that we could set up
Which would be truly free,
Is one at which we each share our
Unique capacity.

When we invest in these life shares
Returns are mutual;
And to us our life dividends
Are only paid in full.

Not one will lose; we all will gain.
For in our common thirst
To be what we can be that's when
Humanity is first.

Free market means I can sell and buy what I want. Communities need to develop standards first, then regulations. More responsibilty fewer desk jobs please.

We don't have a free market.
We have corporate communism.
Institutionalism from end to end.

NAFTA forces countries to sell their tires to buy fuel for their car.

The housing loans for lower income families weren't matched with business loans for lower income families. There was no way that people could pull the money into their communities in the first place to pay back the other loans.

Economists need to take a course in electrical engineering, hydraulics, plumbing anything that will bring home the notion that the economy is a horizontal circulatory system not a vertical nervous system.

Thanks. My own view of our economy also uses the words horizontal and vertical; and incorporates hydraulics and plumbing. I see a vertical cone shaped economy with a pipe running down through the center of the cone to the bottom where it penetrates our Mother Earth. Those at the top who can suck with the greatest force get the most. Those at the bottom get the least and Mother Earth gets .... We could create an economy that is a "horizontal circulatory system". If we don't soon, we will be "...." Doug.E.Barr

I don't think an economy can be anything but................

Your first comment was very useful to me. I struggled for quite a while with the rest of this one but in the end I decided to delete it for same reason I deleted your comment on my precis. I hope I do not deter you or anyone else from making comments that serve my purpose. Doug.E.Barr
