Introduction

webrose.JPG

Troubled by the conflict dominating our lives I asked why? The answer is a question of meaning I present in "the poem", "the precis", "the essay" all titled "The Last Why". The other writings are derivatives. Thank you for sharing. Doug.E.Barr

PETS

 IMG_0134.jpg

A wise God gave us dogs and cats
To live with us so we could see
How we can live our lives without
Religion and philosophy.

They look to us with trusting eyes.
They don’t ask us what we believe.
Their love is unconditional;
It's all that they want to receive.

If only we could be like pets
Our world would be devoid of strife.
We’d not divide humanity.
Together we’d enjoy "real life".

where's the rest of this poem?
three stanzas hardly qualify as a complete poem.

I didn't know that. Doug.E.Barr

Just wanted to let you know I liked your poem. As a "mom" to 3 rescued kitties I witness everyday, their unconditional love!

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I also rescued my two cats from our local shelter that is, appropriate for our times, on the site where we dispose of our garbage. Every time I pass by and see the kittens in the outside enclosure I receive a jolt of sadness for all abandoned lives, particularly those of my fellow human beings. Thank you for sharing your love story. Doug.E.Barr

This was really beautiful. It is so true that in life, sometimes the little things are what matter. The little things like pets!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Whatever their size, the things that matter are not religious/philosophical. Doug.E.Barr

What would a life be without the unconditional love of our pets?...not much of a great life. Where else can you get the kind of love you get from your cats?...nowhere I say! Thanks for sharing the poem.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

With the way we now live it is impossible to generate unconditional love; but it is possible to change. If we did we would know what a life would be like with the unconditional love of others. Doug.E.Barr

If the rest of humanity had your compassion the world would be a better place. My first cat showed up at my door. I tried for a week to find her owner but failed. Puss was my best friend for 8 years. I didn't cry the day she died but for weeks afterward just the thought of her brought a flood of tears. I shed another just now. Thank you for sharing your story. Doug.E.Barr

THAT REALLY TOUCHED MY HEART!! IT'S NICE TO SEE THAT SO MANY PEOPLE LOVE THEIR ANIMALS LIKE I DO. I JUST WISH PEOPLE COULD BE AS KIND AND CARING. I PRAY FOR KINDNESS IN EVERYONE'S HEARTS.

Aww! Very sweet & so very true!!! The love we receive from our pets is often the purest form we will ever experience. We can learn so much from them. :) I have a blue smoke Persian & he is my solace.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

All we need to learn from them is unconditional love. Thank you. Doug.E.Barr

It is said that if one lives with cats one will never need art on their walls...my cats provide me with hours of delight. Doug, your cat looks like a delight. I have dogs, cats, birds...all rescue animals...they really rescued me.

With appreciation for your lovely poems.

Dana

Lady Zola is definitely a delight. I got both her and Lord Nelson at the same time from the local shelter. Right from the start LN was like Velcro. LZ was the opposite. Three years passed before she decided she liked to be brushed. Only occasionally does she jump into my lap even now. She just doesn't like to be handled, except by Mom at about 10 o'clock at night.

That is the time we finish playing scrabble and then go into my bedroom so she can play solitaire on my computer. Zola races ahead of us, jumps onto my bed and stretches out full length. While I load solitaire Mom grabs Zola's tail and drags her across the bed. She wriggles like a can of worms, pulls away, stretches out and looks back at Mom who again pulls her across the bed by her tail. They repeat this activity several times and through it all Mom laughs hysterically. I really think Zola likes to make Mom laugh so she can hear Mom laugh. Her laugh is such a delightful sound. "With appreciation" for taking the time to comment. Doug.E.Barr
