Introduction

webrose.JPG

Troubled by a continuum of conflict, with an apparent variety of causes, dominating our existence I asked why? The answer is a question of meaning I present in a poem, a precis and an essay each aptly titled "The Last Why". All other writings are derivatives. I welcome comments and much appreciate sharing. Thank you. Doug.E.Barr

WOLF'S CRY

 cry.jpg

The plaintive howling of the wolf
Should tell us where we are.
The distance from its end to ours
Is really not that far.
If thinking it's a selfish cry
We do not understand,
When it cries out, it cries for us,
We live on common land.
For what we now refuse to hear
We don't soon make amends,
We'll quickly learn this fact of life,
On Earth our life depends.

Walter Wolf. What a great name. We are all related to the wolf and to every other creature. Doug.E.Barr

what would happen if we would happen to cry wolf to
often we would be lost without help out

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

That is the lesson in Aesop's fable "The boy who cried wolf." Doug.E.Barr

I have to explain this poem for my homework.
What do you mean by "its end to us"?

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Nature sustains us both. When she can no longer sustain the wolf, she is close to the point she will no longer be able to sustain us. Because it was not perfectly clear to you I have changed one word. Thank you. Doug.E.Barr.

This may be one way of interpreting this poem, but are you trying to say that once the wolf is gone, we will be gone soon too?

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Yes. I can't think of another way of interpreting my words. I am happy you understood. Thank you. Doug.E.Barr

This makes me feel calm inside like the waves of the ocean has settled after a long storm thundering inside.

I like your poem. There has to be a balance somewhere to save both creatures.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I am not sure about a balance. I think if we are talking about doing what is necessary to maintain our environment there can't be any trade offs. There can be no balancing our life sustaining environment and the only other thing I can think of putting on the other side of the scale, our present life destructive Economy. Doug.E.Barr

Dear Doggybarr,
I have tried to find you on the internet but could not. Are you from Canada? Do you ever share information about your self with others? Do you ever accept to mentor other writers who need help? Sorry for disturbing you. I love your answers to people's reactions to your poetry.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

You have found me on the internet. This is my website and it is the only place on the internet where I can be found. I live in British Columbia, Canada. There is a bit of information about me in my bio. I haven't mentored, you haven't disturbed me and I appreciate you taking time to comment. Doug.E.Barr

it was a verry nice poem i really liked it it now inspires me.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Thank you. I am pleased you feel inspired. If enough people feel similarly inspired perhaps the wolf will no longer need to 'cry'. Doug.E.Barr

What kind of poem is this? I am using it for school.

-----------------------------------------------------

It probably best fits the definition of a lyric poem. Don't forget to tell your teacher and classmates where you found my poem. Thank you. Doug.E.Barr

I also love the poem. Wolves are my favorite animals and I like how they form a pack and work together.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thank you again. Wouldn't it be great if humans could form one big 'wolf pack' and work together rather than a bunch of small packs which are tearing humanity apart? Doug.E.Barr

Poetry as well as all and any art form should make people think. Judging by the comments above your poetry evidently does just that. Many species of flora and fauna are judged as indicators of our own well being and as can be seen by the devastation of our old growth forests in BC, we seem hell-bent to do ourselves in regardless. My own attempts to gain interest in things natural can be seen on our family website. Thanks Doug and stay creative.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thank you for taking time to comment. I appreciate your kind words. I visited your site and wandered through your paintings and other art work. They are lovely. "Stay creative." It is difficult when faced with evidence of self-destruction but creativity is our only defense. Doug.E.Barr
